Old School Products That Are Still Around (And Still Work Great)

It’s amazing how some beauty products can live such long, productive lives—while others can be discontinued in a snap.
In honor of Flashback Friday, I’m taking a trip down memory lane to celebrate five fantastic goods that are still around, most of which are older than I am.
Cetaphil Skin Cleanser
Talk about old school. The original Cetaphil cleanser was created in 1947, and the formula hasn’t changed since. And while the brand now carries all different kinds of products, its face wash is beloved for being the golden standard for anyone with dry, super sensitive skin.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve
This stuff has been soothing chapped lips, calming icky irritation, and banishing minor burns since 1892. As a balm, this salve really is the sh*t—I’ve been carrying around a tin ever since I was a teen. It works like no other.

Maybelline Great Lash
Having recently celebrated its 40th birthday, Great Lash has been a girl’s go-to mascara for four decades—and is still a best seller. Its conditions, thickens, and really, truly does not clump. Bonus: it’s hypoallergenic, which scores big with contact lens wearers.

Calyx Perfume by Prescriptives
Just ask my BFF, this was my signature scent for the duration of my high school years. And I’m psyched to see there is now a body lotion and shower gel. Of course, I am nervous that indulging in one will give me serious teenage flashbacks, but given this scent’s staying power, I’m willing to risk it.

Noxzema Original Deep Cleansing Cream
I think you’d be hard pressed to find a person who isn’t familiar with this cool tingling cream and its classic cobalt blue bottles. According to Wikipedia, Noxzema was originally formulated in 1914 to help soothe sunburns, but quickly caught on as a cleanser. And it is a multi-use product for sure—I used it to shave my legs as well as wash my face when I was a broke freshman in college. I picked up a bottle to write this article, and the scent instantly transported me back to the 1990s—and gave me flashes of those ads featuring Rebecca Gayheart, pre-fame.
Do you have any old school products that you swear by? Do tell!
