The Cult of Jake Ryan

Last week, Mei Tan wrote about her childhood sweetheart, Chad Allen.
As cute as Chad Allen was/is, he ain’t no Jake Ryan. And we’re not talking about that kid from Hannah Montana. Jake who, you say? Jake Ryan. You know the tall, dark and handsome from the movie Sixteen Candles, otherwise known in the real world as Michael Schoeffling.
Jake Ryan is the quintessential high school jock in the 1984 movie, Sixteen Candles. He is rich, popular, sensitive, and he dumps his hot cheerleader girlfriend for the awkward, creative, geeky girl.
Pure fantasy, right?
Yes, says Amy Kramer, producer of the Today Show, and master Jakeologist (yes, she actually studies Jakeology). According to Amy, Jake Ryan might be the reason you’re still single, by setting the unrealistic standards of the perfect boyfriend.
The actor Michael Schoeffling left Hollywood years ago to pursue carpentry in Pennsylvania, but Jake Ryan still lives in the hearts and minds of thousands of women (and men).
For Flashback Friday, we’re bringing you everything Jake.
